This is a Recruitment Pool for causal Remote Area Nurses.

This pool will be used to fill nurses leave gaps and vacancies in the Remote Clinical Services Team.

  • Deliver comprehensive primary health care, including emergency response, chronic disease management, and health education, tailored to the needs of patients.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic and culturally sensitive healthcare delivery.
  • Adapt to diverse clinical situations with autonomy and resourcefulness, providing high-quality care in varying settings.

  • Competitive Remuneration: Attractive hourly rate $65.84 to $77.41 per hour + 25% casual loading + additional 20% for on-call duties and call-outs.

About you

To be considered as a casual Remote Area Nurse, you must have:

  • Current Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a Registered Nurse with a minimum of three (3) years post registration experience
  • Demonstrated ability to practice in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA’s) Code of Conduct of Registered Nurses and Standards of Practice for Registered Nurses
  • Experience, skills and knowledge working in a multidisciplinary team in a primary health care setting including teamwork and conflict management
  • Well-developed primary health care skills and clear understanding of the scope of practice of the Remote Area Nurse
  • Sound understanding of the principles of primary health care and the model of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services
  • A respect for Aboriginal culture and demonstrated ability to practice in a culturally safe and appropriate manner
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues affecting remote Aboriginal health and drivers of health inequality
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Previous experience working with electronic patient information management systems( preferably Communicare)
  • Current Pharmacotherapeutics for Nurses Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
  • Current National Immunisation Program Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
  • Current advance life support (within 2 years)
  • Current CPR (within 1 year)
  • Current Remote Emergency Care (REC) Certificate and/or Maternity Emergency Care (MEC) (both within 2 years)
  • Evidence of COVID-19 vaccinations

Must be flexible to work in the communities of Parnngurr, Punmu, Jigalong and Kunawarritji as needed and as directed by the Remote Services Manager and / or Director of Clinical Services.

Desirable:

  • The person is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent and is acknowledged as such by their community
  • i-STAT point of care qualification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Further qualifications in the areas of primary health care including chronic disease, mental health, child health, diabetes education, wound care, midwifery or other relevant area, and
  • Knowledge of Medicare and its application to the Aboriginal primary health care setting.

The position involves working with a multicultural organisation where the majority of staff, clients and stakeholders identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. Candidates must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

About the Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical Service

Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical Service is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service located in the East Pilbara region, delivering culturally responsive and appropriate comprehensive primary health care services to the communities of Jigalong, Parnngurr, Punmu, Kunawarritji, and Newman.

Applicants for this position must be legally entitled to work in Australia and will be required to provide evidence of this entitlement. Acceptable evidence includes an Australian or New Zealand passport, birth certificate, or foreign passport with relevant visa.

PAMS operates in some of the most remote parts of Australia and staff are required to be proficient at driving a 4WD vehicle and willing to fly in light aircraft.

Screening and assessment will commence immediately. 

Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments may be made when similar vacancies occur. Appointments may be made from this pool until 31 January 2026.
