About us

Hornsby Shire is located on Sydney's upper north shore, approximately 25 kilometres north of the CBD. Known as the ‘Bushland Shire’, our local government area is characterised by bushland comprising national park, major waterways, natural reserves and rural landscape. The rest of the Shire combines urban, rural and open spaces. We are a diverse and inclusive Council and we encourage candidates from different backgrounds to apply.

About the role

Key duties of the role include planning, managing and undertaking civil infrastructure investigations, designs, cost estimates, and all other associated preconstruction activities.

About you

This role requires a reliable and enthusiastic person who has proven capability to design civil infrastructure projects including roads; drainage; traffic management devices; and environmental facilities such as gross pollutant traps, biofiltration basins, and water harvesting.

Your knowledge of current civil design standards, guidelines and Council Specification will enable you to work effectively and accurately, and you pride yourself on your attention to detail and ability to deliver complete 'shovel ready' design packages within agreed timeframes. You will be competent in the use of design software including, but not limited to Civil 3D, 12D and AutoCAD as well as DRAINS.

Your excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills are essential for the role.  You will also have proven experience and competence in writing reports and letters; such as Review of Environmental Factors (REF’s); project summaries/status reports; meeting minutes; and carrying out and recording community consultation. You will also need to be a good listener who can follow directions and reliably complete set tasks to expectation.

The successful candidate is expected to mainly work in a business office environment, but will also be required to visit outdoor project and construction sites, as well as other related business premises.
