ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Design Engineer to join the Engineering Services team at Cumberland City Council!
The Design Engineer role will provide assistance to the Development and Building Business Unit by way of quality engineering design work relating to road, stormwater drainage and traffic functions. You will be responsible in providing advice on all engineering design matters to a range of stakeholders and investigating civil infrastructure related problems.
The successful applicant will require:
- Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent with 3 Years’ experience in civil infrastructure design
- Eligible to become a member of Institution of Engineers Australia
- Working knowledge in assessment of engineering plans
- Experience using AutoCAD, Civil CAD AutoTURN and MS applications, specifically for design purposes in the preparation of associated documentation
- Experience in using surveying equipment including Total Station
- Ability to meet deadlines on a daily basis
- Time management skills
- Experience with design skills
- Experience with problem-solving skills
- Effective report writing & oral communication skills
- Ability to work in a team environment with other staff, and/or consultants on special projects
- Demonstrated understanding and commitments to WHS and EEO principles across all activities within the organisation
- Current Class C Driver Licence
- Hold a current General Induction for Construction Work in NSW (White Card)

About this role:
- Permanent, full-time position
- 70 hour fortnight
- Access to Council's 9 day fortnight Accrued Day Off (ADO)
- Located at Council's Auburn office, with frequent travel required across Council worksites, and may be required to work across any of Council’s work locations
Salary information: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.
- Grade 12 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $1,844.36 to $2,121.02 per week, plus 11.5% superannuation
- The commencing salary will be negotiated, taking into consideration the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience related to the role
- Car allowance of $11,608.48 per annum or a leaseback vehicle
- Civil Liabilities Allowance of 3.5%
