The role
CBCity has a permanent full-time opportunity for an experienced Building Surveyor with highly developed interpersonal skills to join our Building Certification team. This team is responsible for ensuring Council meets its development assessment and building certification duties whilst being responsible for the enforcement of building regulations.
As a Building Surveyor, you will be responsible for the assessment of development applications, complying development certificates, construction certificates, occupation certificates, building information certificates and the undertaking of mandatory critical stage inspections when acting in the principal certifier role.
Duties will include but not be limited to:
- Ensure the timely and effective delivery of building certification and development assessment obligations within service standards set by Council.
- Provide advice and information to Council and the community on building related matters.
- Manage workload to ensure services are delivered in accordance with Council’s service standards in a timely manner.
- Undertake building certification responsibilities and development assessment tasks as required.
- Promptly and effectively respond to all enquiries from customers regarding building certification, development assessment and other related matters.
- Assist and provide professional input to the certification of building works and inspections.
- Remain abreast of relevant legislative requirements.

You will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in Building Surveying (or equivalent).
- Registration as a Building Surveyor - Restricted (Class 1 and 10 Buildings).
- Class C driver’s licence.
- Relevant function experience in building surveying.
- A sound working knowledge of relevant legislation such as the Local Government Act, Environment Planning and Assessment Act, Building and Development Certifiers Act, Swimming Pools Act and Building Code of Australia.
- The ability to investigate and resolve matters in a methodical and timely manner using judgment-based decision-making skills.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills, people skills, conflict resolution, and mediation and negotiation skills.
The salary range for this opportunity starts at $90,858 (Grade G, Step 1) + Vehicle Allowance + 11.5% super. Salary may be negotiable dependent on skills and experience.
