The City of Ryde library service comprises of five branches at Ryde, North Ryde, Eastwood, West Ryde and Gladesville as well as a significant online library. Our libraries are places of social inclusion where members of our community borrow items for leisure and lifelong learning, learn about new technology, participate in activities, attend children’s and adults’ programs and carry out study and research for school assignments or business projects. They are lively, busy places and serve a culturally diverse customer base.

 

About the Role: 

We are seeking a motivated professional with strong leadership and strategic thinking skills, a collaborative, inclusive approach and a passion for innovative community engagement that will contribute to the ongoing vision for the West Ryde branch.

This position supports the West Ryde Library Team Leader in all aspects of branch operations including leadership of customer service shifts, maintenance of the library collection, delivery of programs for children and adults and monitoring the maintenance of the branch to maintain a safe, neat, welcoming library.

In addition, West Ryde Library houses a range of STEM focused installations for children and adults including PCs with Adobe Creative Cloud and other specialised software.

This is a job shared position. The hours are:

  • Wednesdays – 4.75 hours - 12:15pm – 5:00pm 
  • Thursdays – 7 hours – either 9:00am-5:00pm or 12:00pm-8:00pm 
  • Fridays – 7 hours - 9:00am-5:00pm

Please note that this position involves regular rostered weekend and evening shifts. This role is on a temporary contract ending 03 July 2026.

Your commencing annual salary will range from  $ 78,882.55 and $ 86,395.18 per week pro rata plus Superannuation dependent on your experience and qualifications. 

Your focus will be:

  • Providing professional and responsive customer and information services including readers advisory, promotion of library service and programs and the development and maintenance of community relationships.
  • Assisting in proactively identifying and meeting community needs, ensuring that the collection, programming and services target current and emerging needs particularly in the area of STEM education
  • Leading and developing a cohesive team of up to 10 staff including individual staff development through continuous improvement
  • Assisting the Team Leader to manage an effective and efficient operation, the physical library space, the collections and patron satisfaction with your hands on management style
  • Liaising with Team Leaders and staff from other library sections to ensure consistency of service quality and assist the development of library-wide innovations.
