The Opportunity

Lithgow City Council has an exciting opportunity for a Project Officer (2 Year Term Contract) to join their team in Lithgow, NSW.

Reporting to the Team Leader Projects, you will be responsible for project managing the design, tender, and construction phases of a range of infrastructure projects. This position is offered as a two-year contract to manage external grants offered to Council by the state and federal government, funding infrastructure projects across the region 

More specifically, your duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • To manage consultants and/or contractors in the design, tender and construction phases of the position’s projects. Such projects will include:
    • Construction of replacement bridges,
    • Slope retention and stabilisation projects,
    • Refurbishment of buildings,
    • Bushfire green waste clean-up programs,
    • Development of evacuation plans,
    • Delivery of local infrastructure masterplans, including footpath construction, creek rehabilitation and related works, and
    • Other infrastructure projects as applicable
  • To manage the tender process as outlined in the Local Government Act 1993 and Local Government (General) Regulation 2005 and Council policies and standard working procedures.
  • Process milestone reports, grant acquittals and any other project reporting requirements set by external funding bodies over the course of a set project.
  • Ensure that the position’s projects are completed within an agreed budget and to an agreed level of quality. 
  • Prepare Council reports 
  • Investigate opportunities, prepare applications, progress and final reports

About you

The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering, Project or Contract Management or related discipline from an Australian University or relevant overseas qualifications suitable for graduate membership of the Institution of Engineers, Australia.
  • Relevant work-related experience in the field of civil engineering and financial management, including demonstrated experience in managing consultants, contracts and infrastructure projects on time and within budget.
  • Demonstrated Project Management & Contract Management experience
  • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation including Local Government Act, Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, Roads Act and related legislation, regulations and codes.
  • Current NSW Class C Driver’s Licence
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including Microsoft Project or similar.
  • Demonstrated high level of communication abilities/skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to honesty and integrity
  • Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of Work Health and Safety

In addition, an ideal candidate would have previous experience in Local Government and proficiency in Microsoft Office computer programs and Civil Engineering software.

  • Between $1,713.44 and $1,904.19 per week, commensurate with your skills, qualifications and experience.
