Waste Recovery Officer (Ref: 1362)
About the position:
The Waste Recovery Officer is responsible for attending The Bowerbird shop floor and providing good customer service. Additionally, the Waste Recovery Officer processes and sorts donated items from the community which can be resold, reused, or repurposed to reduce the number of items going to landfill. The Bowerbird is one of the key features of our Meru Resource Recovery Station alongside the Weighbridge, which the Waste Recovery Officer is to provide support to from time to time.
This position is permanent part time, working 40 hours per fortnight as part of a rotating roster which includes weekends and public holidays.
Key accountabilities:
- Assist with day to day running of the Bowerbird shop including conducting sales, greeting customers and adjusting stock on shop floor.
- Undertake the Bowerbird shop opening and closing procedures, including balancing daily cash and EFTPOS sales.
- Proactively enhance the Bowerbird shop customers’ knowledge of the reuse and repurpose shop items and recycling opportunities and provide customers with additional waste related information and assistance as needed.
- Maintain the Bowerbird shop in such a manner that the shop floor and surrounds are always kept in a clean, tidy and safe state.

Position requirements:
The successful applicant will ideally have previous experience in hospitality, retail or customer service role or demonstrated experience in a similar role with willingness to learn. Furthermore, have good customer service and communication skills.
Remuneration and benefits:
A salary starting from $65,211 per annum (pro rata) or $33.00 per hour will be offered dependent on knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications.
