Salary Range: $1,654 - $1,888 per 35 hour week plus 3.5% Civil Liability Allowance + superannuation (2 year Term Contract)
Join us and be part of the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) project, the State’s first renewable energy zone, covering an expansive 20,000 sq. km across parts of Warrumbungle, Dubbo, and Mid-Western regions. This landmark initiative is set to drive the future of renewable energy in NSW, featuring a combination of solar, wind, and transmission projects. The REZ will have a significant impact on local communities and surrounding regions. We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Project Engineer Roads to join our team and take charge of developing and delivering a range of civil infrastructure projects.
In this role, you will manage projects from design through to completion, ensuring they meet project objectives, budget, and timelines. You will be responsible for creating innovative engineering designs, conducting feasibility studies, submitting Development Applications, and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislative requirements. Additionally, you will assess and process applications under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, Local Government Act, and Roads Act, while also providing pre-lodgement services to assist customers.
As part of the project management team, you will plan, schedule, and coordinate resources, including personnel and materials, to deliver projects efficiently. You will monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement strategies to mitigate them. With your technical expertise, you will guide design reviews, testing, and commissioning, resolving challenges to ensure optimal solutions. Stakeholder engagement is key, and you will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, maintaining strong relationships to keep projects aligned with objectives.
This role requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality assurance. You will ensure that all construction activities are carried out in compliance with approvals and Council policies, while maintaining accurate documentation and reports. You will also contribute to the continuous improvement of design methodologies and project processes, staying up to date with industry trends and best practices.
To excel in this role, you must have tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering (recognised by Engineers Australia) or significant relevant experience, along with expertise in civil engineering design, construction, and rehabilitation. You should be proficient in the use of CAD software, and experience in geometric road design, project management, and development assessment is essential. Any experience with pavement design, drainage design, or working within local government is a plus.

This is a two-year full-time term contract funded position based at Coonabarabran, with tenure being subject to the continuation of EnergyCo funding.
Coonabarabran, known as the Astronomy Capital of Australia, is midway between Melbourne and Brisbane and is known for its beautiful landscape and stunning night skies. Selection criteria include:
- As a minimum you will have tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering (recognised by Engineers Australia) and/or significant relevant experience.
- Demonstrated specialised experience within development assessment, planning or a planning related field and proven experience in the interpretation of development assessment controls and policies.
- Demonstrated high level of interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations (eg Austroads).
- Specialist knowledge and demonstrated competence in:
- Civil engineering – design, construction and rehabilitation
- Engineering surveying
- Geometric road design
- Project management skills
- Tendering and government procurement requirements
- Willingness to undertake ongoing training and professional development
- Class C driver’s licence
- It is a plus if you have
- Proficiency in relevant software tools (eg AutoCAD, CivilCad and/or Advanced Road design).
- Experience working in local government or a similar environment
- WHS Construction Induction “whitecard”
- Experience in
- Pavement design
- Simple structural designs
- Drainage design (including hydraulic calculations)
- Investigation, design and reporting of water supply and sewerage reticulation
- Traffic management
