About the Opportunity

Our Business & Performance Directorate supports this vision as the internal corporate services provider and manager of Council’s commercial businesses. The Internal Auditor role is a vital role within our team to ensure internal controls, risk management processes, and governance processes are effective and efficient.

In working for Port Macquarie-Hastings Council, the Internal Auditor will support the organisation in maintaining public trust, ensuring our strategies, plans and work practices comply with legislation and regulations. You will be strong communicator, who works collaboratively and has excellent stakeholder relationship skills.

The role plays a key support role for the Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC) and ensures that local government operations are transparent, accountable, and aligned with the best interests of the local community.

To succeed in this role you will need:

  • Tertiary qualification and Institute of Internal Auditors professional membership, or qualification as certified internal auditor.
  • Demonstrated experience in modern internal audit concepts, techniques and the standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing issued by the Institute of Internal Auditors.
  • Demonstrated ability to research and prepare auditing plans, conduct internal audits and prepare clear and concise internal audit reports that bring value to an organisation.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft product suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams) and data analytics (e.g. Power BI).

Business & Performance Directorate

The Business & Performance Directorate oversees a comprehensive portfolio of organisational functions encompassing people management, financial services, risk and governance, technological advancement, commercial operations, and strategic asset management.

The Business & Performance Directorate provides all corporate services functions within PMHC, supporting the needs of over 600 staff across the organisation every day as well as the short and long-term strategic direction of the entire organisation.

Remuneration and Benefits

Employment Type: Full Time, Permanent - 35 hours per week

Starting Salary (exclusive of super): In the range of $104,832 - $117,340 depending on skills and experience plus superannuation
