About the role
The City of Coffs Harbour is looking for an independent member to join its Audit Risk and Improvement Committee. If you have the right mix of skills and experience, we want to hear from you!
The objective of the Council's audit, risk and improvement committee is to provide independent assurance to the Council by monitoring, reviewing and providing advice about the Council's governance processes, compliance, risk management, control frameworks, external accountability obligations and overall performance.
The committee provides independent assurance to the Council regarding governance, compliance, risk management, and overall performance. This is a vital role in ensuring transparency and accountability within our local government. The committee comprises of 1 Chairperson, 2 Independent Members, and 1 non-voting Councillor. Members are appointed for up to 4 years, with the possibility of reappointment.

About you?
To be eligible to be considered and appointed as an independent member of the Committee, candidates must demonstrate:
- The ability to read and understand financial statements.
- The understanding of government ethical requirements and conflicts of interest.
- The capacity to form independent judgments.
- A willingness to constructively challenge management practices.
- Professionalism and ethics in duty and a commitment to devote necessary time to the committee.
- Relevant knowledge in areas such as risk management, performance management, auditing, financial reporting, accounting, and governance.
- Independence from the council.

- Information in relation to work and/or other related experience in fraud and corruption prevention, IT/cyber security or internal control frameworks.
- Information in relation to work and/or other related experience in legal, accounting and audit knowledge.
- Outline your relevant experience in local government.
- Outline what you believe to be your areas of expertise.

An evaluation panel will assess applications, shortlist candidates for interviews, and make recommendations to the Council.
