We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Building Assessment Officer to support our Development & Building Department. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of local government legislation, exceptional communication skills, and a passion for community engagement.   • Permanent, full-time role with a salary range of $81,546.21 - $94,483.59 per annum plus 11.5% superannuation (dependant on the skills, qualifications and relevant experience of the suitable candidate)

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the assessment process of Building Information Certificate applications Section 68 applications and other development-related applications
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, including the Local Government Act and Environmental Planning Instruments
  • Consult with the community regarding objections and provide clear assistance on assessment matters
  • Conduct inspections in accordance with pre- and post-demolition programs
  • Facilitate effective communication between stakeholders to enhance Council's public image
  • Implement policy changes and improve operational processes to ensure high standards of service delivery
  • Monitor compliance with development policies and planning regulations
  • Take appropriate action on compliance and enforcement matters on development sites

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications

  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of the assessment of Applications under the Local Government Act 1993 and the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979
  • Demonstrates an ability to distinguish between types of development approvals and processes, understanding when different legislative tools (eg. development consent or complying development certificate consent) apply
  • Ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with the community, and other professional bodies involved in the industry
  • Ability to work both independently and also to contribute positively to a team
  • Strong interpersonal communication, collaboration and stakeholder management skills
  • Proven conflict resolution, problem solving, and mediation and facilitation skills
  • Proven organisation and time management skills
  • Ability to draft reports, referrals, routine correspondence and maintain records in an accurate, clear, concise and timely manner
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and other general computer programs/software and the ability to adapt to changing technology
  • Ability to approach problems in a creative manner through the use of mediation, conflict resolution and negotiation
  • Possess and maintain a current NSW Class C Driver’s Licence and WHS General Induction (White Card)

 

Desirable

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in Environmental Health, Building and Development practices and legislation within Local Government
