Title: Aboriginal Heritage Manager, Permanent - Full-time Role, 35 hours per week

Northern Beaches Council’s Strategic and Place Planning Business Unit encompasses the Aboriginal Heritage Office, which is a long standing and award winning partnership between Northern Beaches, Lane Cove, North Sydney, Willoughby and Ku-ring-gai Councils to identify, protect and promote Aboriginal heritage and history in these areas.
Northern Beaches Council provides the administrative support role for the Aboriginal Heritage Office on behalf of the partner councils. The Aboriginal Heritage Office works with each partner council to support their respective Aboriginal heritage obligations under relevant legislation and policies.
A Steering Committee, comprising senior representatives of each partner council, has responsibility for providing strategic direction, oversight and support for the Aboriginal Heritage Office.

Our opportunity:
The key focus areas of this role include:
• Engage with teams across partner councils to understand their Aboriginal heritage obligations under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974, Environmental Planning & Assessment Act 1979 and other relevant legislation and policies.
• Contribute to the development, delivery and implementation of strategic initiatives to ensure the identification, protection, and promotion of Aboriginal cultural heritage.
• Manage, maintain and develop the AHO Museum and Education Centre as well as all AHO education, training programs and initiatives.
• Prioritising the competing demands within the team.
• Managing the expectations of all stakeholders, seeking timely input to information requests.
• Delivering accurate and consistent work within tight timeframes in a fast-paced high volume work environment.
About you:
We’re looking for a highly motivated person to lead the Aboriginal Heritage Office team. You’ll bring extensive experience in Aboriginal cultural heritage and experience managing staff, budgets and programs to a team passionate about making a difference to our community.
