Description

We are seeking a GIS Specialist to join our team, responsible for supporting the design, development, and maintenance of Council’s Spatial Applications and GIS infrastructure. This role ensures accurate and timely geographic information is available to end users while maintaining a client-focused approach. Key responsibilities include administering and implementing policies, standards, and processes to uphold the security and integrity of Council’s GIS and related datasets. The ideal candidate will have at least three years’ experience with GIS, database management, and asset/field-data capture systems, including public access to GIS via the internet. Additionally, the role involves utilising Council’s Core enterprise business systems to integrate with GIS. 

About the role:

  • Support the design, development, and maintenance of Council’s Spatial Applications and GIS infrastructure.
  • Ensure accurate and timely geographic information is available to end users with a client-focused approach.
  • Administer and implement policies, standards, and processes to maintain the security and integrity of Council’s GIS and related datasets.
  • Utilise Council’s Core Business Systems for asset and property data management.
  • Contribute to system upgrades, database management, and asset/field-data capture initiatives to improve operational effectiveness.

We are seeking:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Spatial Sciences or an equivalent field of study AND/OR at least three years’ experience with Geographic Information Systems, spatial database management , ESRI filed mobility and web mapping.
  • Strong knowledge of data management principles, standards, and techniques in a corporate environment.
  • Experience with SQL and scripting for GIS and databases.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with a commitment to operational efficiency.
  • Excellent communication skills, including report writing, presentations, negotiation, and conflict resolution, with a team-based and client-focused approach.

Where it's located:

This position is based in Murwillumbah, and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
