The City of Sydney Council is seeking an experienced and strategic Manager, Security and Emergency Management to lead and enhance our security and emergency preparedness framework. This key leadership role is responsible for developing and implementing strategies that mitigate security risks, ensure business continuity, and safeguard the organisation’s people and assets.
In this role, you will develop and execute strategies to mitigate security risks while ensuring business continuity. You will be responsible for formulating and implementing emergency plans that prepare for, prevent, respond to, and recover from security-related incidents, catastrophic events, and major emergencies. A key aspect of this position is researching and deploying cutting-edge security technologies and innovative management techniques to enhance security measures across the organisation. You will establish appropriate security standards, risk controls, and compliance measures to maintain a robust security framework.
Providing timely information and delivering regular training programs to employees and Councillors is an essential component of this role, ensuring that everyone is aware of their responsibilities in security and emergency management. Additionally, you will be required to develop and maintain strong relationships with law enforcement agencies, security and intelligence organisations, and private sector counterparts to enhance collaboration and information-sharing.
You will oversee site security operations, ensuring the protection of Council assets, employees, Councillors, customers, and visitors. This includes optimising personnel and equipment use to maintain a safe and secure environment. Furthermore, you will represent the Council at security and emergency management committees and community forums, advocating for best practices and effective emergency management policies.
To be successful in this role, you should have proven experience in security risk management, emergency planning, or crisis management. Strong knowledge of security technology, risk assessment, and compliance frameworks is essential. The ability to lead and implement organisation-wide security strategies, coupled with experience in stakeholder engagement – including working with law enforcement and emergency services – is crucial. Excellent communication and leadership skills will enable you to effectively manage security operations and training programs.
