The opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a Ranger to join our Ranger Services team. This position will provide Council with an effective, customer focused regulatory and compliance service with emphasis on the control of companion animals, straying stock, littering, environmental nuisances, parking control and breaches of local government legislation and policy.
In this role you will:
- Undertake regulation and compliance activities, including but not limited to animal control, parking, camping, footpath and roadside activities, activities on parks/reserves, abandoned vehicles/goods, litter, illegal dumping, and environmental nuisance.
- Operate the animal management pound facility.
- Impound and manage stray animals and stock.
- Microchip companion animals.
- Conduct investigations and respond to customer requests.
- Assess compliance and take appropriate regulatory action.
- Participate in education campaigns to raise awareness and improve compliance.
Skills and experience required (Criteria)
- Previous experience working as a Ranger in a local government setting.
- Currently holds a firearms licence or the ability to obtain a firearms licence, including previous experience using a firearm.
- Previous experience working with companion animals.
- Demonstrated understanding of Companion Animals Act, Local Government, Protection of the Environmental Operations Act, Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, Road Act and Road Rules.
- Good written and verbal communication skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Demonstrated ability to make decisions under pressure.
- Previous experience in investigating complaints.

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Council’s policies and conditions of employment. The wage is commencing at $1,267.40 per week with progression up to $1,544.30 per week dependent upon skills and experience.
