We are seeking a suitably qualified individual to join our Planning & Strategic Focus team as Statutory Planner in a Permanent Full-Time capacity.

Located within two hours south-west of Melbourne, Colac Otway is renowned for its magnificent southern coastline, the Otway rainforests and the northern lakes and offers an attractive lifestyle with diverse employment opportunities. This position is based in Colac.

As Statutory Planner you will:

  • Process planning and subdivision applications efficiently and effectively in accordance with relevant legislation and the Colac Otway Planning Scheme.
  • Provide professional advice on planning matters.
  • Have input into the preparation of strategic planning reports.
  • Represent Council at Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) and other public forums as required.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide professional advice on town planning and subdivision matters in consultation with the Coordinator and other senior staff.
  • Liaise with government departments, agencies and other relevant bodies to achieve high quality planning outcomes and meet legislative requirements.
  • Keep abreast of changing legislation and contemporary requirements for the assessment of applications.
  • Research and report on planning applications and other planning matters as required, in consultation with the Coordinator and other senior staff.

About You:

To support your success in this role you will have:

  • Understanding of planning principles, practices, processes and relevant legislation.
  • An appropriate tertiary qualification in Town Planning or closely related discipline.
  • Post-graduation practical experience in Town Planning or a closely related discipline (Band 6 position only).
  • Computer literacy skills including understanding Geographic Information Systems, Spreadsheet database applications and Word Processing.
  • Highly effective time management and prioritisation skills.
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills.
  • A Customer service focus.

Salary information: $86,793.20 to $93,614.04 per annum plus superannuation
