How you’ll make a difference

Victoria Daly Regional Council is seeking a full-time Council Operations Assistant Manager, based in Yarralin, NT.

This role provides essential administrative and operational support to the Council Operations Manager, ensuring the smooth day-to-day functioning of the Council Service Delivery Centre. It is a community-based role with high visibility and impact.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing high-level secretarial and administrative support to the Council Operations Manager
  • Acting on higher duties when the Council Operations Manager is on leave or absent
  • Assisting with quotations, raising purchase orders, and budget monitoring
  • Managing administration operations within the Council Service Delivery Centre
  • Preparing reports, correspondence, and financial documentation
  • Coordinating recruitment and HR-related community activities
  • Maintaining records, scheduling meetings, managing travel and event logistics
  • Taking minutes at Local Authority meetings and liaising with internal departments
  • Ensuring adherence to Work Health & Safety standards and Council policies
  • Promoting the Council's image and values through respectful and professional conduct

This position requires the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with community members and stakeholders, as well as a commitment to cultural understanding and sensitivity when working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities.

As the Victoria Daly region has a large Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population, you will need to ensure cultural sensitivity and awareness across all activities.

What you’ll bring to the team

To be considered for this role, strong administrative and secretarial skills at an executive level are required. While tertiary qualifications in a related field are desirable, demonstrated experience and capability are key.

In addition, you’ll bring:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with a broad range of stakeholders
  • High attention to detail and the ability to prioritise and meet competing deadlines
  • A collaborative, team-oriented approach
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality and navigate sensitive issues with discretion
  • Computer literacy, including experience with systems like Office 365, and ideally, exposure to platforms such as Approval Max and Roubler
  • An understanding of Work Health & Safety principles

Experience living and working in remote Indigenous communities is heavily preferred. Cultural understanding of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities is essential.

Please Note: Before commencement in this role, it is a requirement that you hold an open Driver's Licence, have completed a Criminal History Check (within 3 months), and you must also obtain or be able to obtain a Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card).
