The Opportunity

As a Circular Economy Project Officer for the City of Perth, you'll be at the forefront of shaping a sustainable circular future. Your key role will involve research, development, and implementation of innovative circular economy strategies and projects, driving the City towards ambitious waste reduction and resource recovery goals. You’ll play a critical part in transforming waste systems, advocating for change, and fostering partnerships with a diverse range of stakeholders to embed circular principles across the City.

Reporting to the Waste Transformation Specialist within our Operations team, your responsibilities would primarily include:

  • Strategic Development: contribute to research and creation of transformative programs and initiatives that support the City's strategic waste and sustainability objectives while ensuring compliance with environmental legislation;
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Lead the education of and communication with the City’s internal and external stakeholders on legislation, regulations, policies and procedures relevant to established and leading circular economy initiatives.  Be the voice of change, driving the adoption of sustainable systems;
  • Grant Acquisition: Proactively identify and support the submission of funding applications for circular economy projects, unlocking opportunities to enhance the City’s sustainable initiatives; and
  • Technical Support: Serve as a key advisor, resolving complex waste management challenges by leveraging your expertise and influencing stakeholders through collaboration, negotiation, and evidence-based strategies.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will possess:

  • Qualification in sustainable waste management, environmental science, project management or relevant discipline, or minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar role;
  • Demonstrated experience in scoping, facilitating, analysing and reporting on sustainability projects;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Act 2007 (WARR), relevant State and Local Government Acts and legislation; and
  • Thorough knowledge of circular economy or sustainability principles.

Eligibility

To be eligible to work for us, you will need to demonstrate:

  • A right to work in Australia (e.g. a birth certificate, current passport or current visa);
  • A current ‘C’ class Australian drivers licence; and
  • A satisfactory National Police Clearance (dated within 3 months).
