ABOUT THE ROLE

Position

Council is very fortunate to have our own staff employed to maintain all of Council’s plant, buildings, and community infrastructure.   

We are looking for a trade qualified Mechanic to join our workshop team. We encourage applicants with mechanical qualifications at any level to apply, including those with qualifications and experience in light vehicle maintenance who are willing to expand their skills and upgrade their qualification to support Council’s heavy vehicle maintenance requirements. On the job mentoring and support will be provided by Council’s workshop team and Council will cover the cost of all compulsory course requirements. 

The Vehicle Mechanic position reports to the Supervisor Mechanical Services and is responsible for providing a high level of assistance to Council’s Workshop team in the maintenance, servicing and repair of Council’s heavy vehicles, and other plant and machinery items. The role also assists the Supervisor in the training and development of apprentices.

  • Mechanical trade certificate relevant to the position.
  • Ability and willingness to upgrade qualification to heavy commercial vehicle mechanical technology trade.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a mechanical workshop.
  • Proven knowledge of plant operation capabilities and associated maintenance and repair requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience in the direction and supervision of apprentices and contractors, with the ability to lead and motivate a team.

The rewards

  • A salary range of $61,500 to $73,300 per annum (plus 11.5% superannuation, a weekly tool allowance of $35.40 and a weekly industry allowance of $18.28).
  • 9 day fortnight working arrangement. Council is currently trialling a range of flexible working options. Full time field staff will have the option to apply to work a compressed four day work week, subject to operational and team based requirements and approval.
