The Urban Strategy Team is responsible for the preparation of a Local Strategic Planning Statement, Local Environmental Plan and Development Control Plan for the Inner West Council (LEP/DCP Project). This project includes preparing the supporting evidence base, under taking place-based planning to inform the LEP/DCP, preparing the plans and undertaking associated consultation. This will be one of Councils premier projects undertaken over the next few years.
The GIS Specialist will support the project by:
• Providing ongoing GIS mapping support;
• Assisting to maintain Council’s cadastral base map and supporting information;
• Producing mapping and supporting documentation for the project in accordance with state government guidelines;
• Developing high quality mapping and info-graphics to support reporting and documentation to Council, the community, external government departments and other customers;
• Supporting the public exhibition of strategic planning documents by providing mapping and graphical representations that can be understood and commented upon by customers and members of the community;
• Providing timely service to the Strategic Planning Group for the Property system and GIS information;
• Building relationships with Council’s ICT branch and assisting them with projects that benefit the Strategic Planning Group; and
• Building relationships across Councils Strategic Planning Group to assist with GIS related matters to improve systems, information, and engagement with the community.
You will foster strong internal partnerships across multidisciplinary project teams and within service units to embed best practice GIS systems within the Group. You will also be available to other teams within the Strategic Planning Group of Council to assist with GIS expertise and provide graphical skills across the Group.
You will successfully coordinate a diverse range of concurrent projects and often tight timeframes in a politically sensitive and high pressure environment. You will be a strategic thinker who achieves results through a planned approach, with high-level analytical and interpersonal communication skills, and a proven ability to manage difficult situations.
You will be community focused and work collaboratively with the GIS Team Leader and Manager and other staff to ensure the success of the project and associated team.

$82,325.88 to $101,496.20 + 11.5% Superannuation
Some of the required skills, experience and qualifications
1. Degree qualifications in geography, cartography, GIS or related area or equivalent experience;
2. Experience in use of NSW LPI digital cadastral database (DCDB) and its relationship to Council in all areas of the GIS and Experience in the use of Land Information Systems;
3. Demonstrated ability to efficiently update the cadastral base map from registered plans received from Land and Property Information, including Deposited Plans, Strata Plans, Community Plans and Neighbourhood Plans;
4. Experience in use and development of Geographic Information Systems particularly in land use planning projects and the production of high quality graphical representations, maps and diagrams to support project needs;
