About the opportunity
We have a rapidly expanding Natural Areas portfolio with numerous natural assets to maintain, and this role is crucial in shaping the future of our Natural Areas network.
This is a fixed-term position up to June 2025.
Our team focuses on bio-retention systems and Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) assets, including constructed waterway management.
As a bio-retention worker, you will:
- Ensure bio-retention systems and wetlands are maintained to service standards
- Assist with training and development of Council’s apprentices
- Undertake the maintenance of bio-retention systems, wetlands, lakes, and associated WSUD assets to achieve a safe and attractive finish.
You will play a vital role in improving the natural environment of the Blacktown local government area.
Qualifications and experience
Essential:
- Relevant qualifications in Horticulture or equivalent, or satisfactory completion of an indentured Apprenticeship as a Gardener
- Extensive experience in maintenance of WSUD assets, gardens and landscaped areas
- Chemical Application AQF 3 or equivalent
- Current ‘C’ class driver’s licence.
Desirable:
- Current MR driver’s licence
- Chainsaw operation certificate of competence
- Traffic Controller Implementation accreditation
- First Aid certificate.
Remuneration and benefits
The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.
- Entry level for this position starts at $1,316.09 per week
- 38-hour working week
- Rostered Day Off (RDO) every fortnight
