About the role

The Recreation Assets Leading Hand’s Primary purpose is to co-ordinate works crews, staff and plant

under their control undertaking maintenance of open space and recreation facilities within Willoughby City, including formal gardens and massed plantings, pathways, grass areas, trees, playgrounds and picnic/barbecue areas.

Your duties will see you maintaining trees in parkland and streetscapes, preparation and maintaining garden beds and mass planted areas. Identify hazardous or unhealthy trees, inspect playground equipment for any safety hazards and where possible rectify.

You will maintain good communication both with your team and members of the community and provide effective assistance and advice to the community.

 

 

Requirements

  • Practical experience in the horticultural field and knowledge of parkland, sportsground and streetscape maintenance, including formal gardens, garden maintenance, playgrounds, basic landscape construction, lawn mowing, litter control, picnic/barbecue area cleaning and weed control and tree maintenance.
  • Knowledge and experience in the use and maintenance of lawn mowing machine and small plant.
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of chemicals and fertilizers in parkland maintenance.
  • Self-motivated and takes pride in achieving a good finished product.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
  • Highly customer and delivery focused.
  • Willingness to learn and also provide input into organisational improvements
