Expressions of interest are now open for suitably qualified expert panellists to join the Design Review Panel (DRP).
Background
Sutherland Shire Council is located about 26 kilometres south from the Sydney CBD, with a population of 230,900. The Shire has diverse environment including urban areas, national parks, scenic coasts, and extensive waterways. Sutherland Shire is an appealing place to live, work and explore, with population projections set to rise in the coming years. This growth has encouraged development for residential, commercial and recreation uses to respond to the changing needs of the community.
High quality development is essential as part of the Shires growth. The role of the Design Review Panel (DRP) is integral to supporting the assessment of development applications that shape our community’s image. The DRP has been established to examine, evaluate and comment on the design aspects of development applications. 
The role of the DRP is to provide independent expert advice on the architectural merit of development applications to assist in achieving high quality urban design in the Sutherland Shire. The DRP ensures development proposals are achieving the 9 design quality principles of State Environmental Planning Policy (Housing) 2021 and its design principles for residential apartment development and the Apartment Design Guide and deliver the desired outcomes set out in all relevant planning controls.
An opportunity is provided for a suitably qualified member to join the Panel.
Selection Criteria
Sutherland Shire Council is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified professionals

Applicants must have extensive experience in design development and in the NSW planning process. This includes demonstrated understanding of high quality design and the ability to provide constructive advice to achieve improved outcomes.

Extensive experience and qualifications in one or more of the following areas: Urban Design, Architecture and Landscape Architecture.

Experience in providing expert advice with regards to the architectural merit, landscape quality and sustainability outcomes.

Provide well-considered advice and recommendations based on the principles of State Environmental Planning Policy (Housing) 2021 and its design principals for residential apartment development and the Apartment Design Guide. and any other relevant policies.

Verbal and written communication skills to ensure applicants understand the advice provided.

Understand the relevant legislative and regulatory requirements appropriate to Council.
Appointment of Committee members
Council will appoint members following an application and interview process. Terms of appointment will be in accordance with the Terms of Reference found here.

Expressions of Interested should be submitted by 11.59pm Wednesday 11 December 2024. The CV or cover letter must include the name and contact details for two referees in support of the Expression of Interest.
