ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Cumberland City Council is proud to offer Apprentice - Civil Construction roles in line with the 'fresh start for local government apprentices, trainees and cadets' in conjunction with the NSW Government. These apprenticeships offer a combination of on-the-job work experience combined with the completion of a nationally recognised qualification, Certificate III Civil Construction (General), through TAFE or a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).
The Apprentice - Civil Construction role is responsible for undertaking activities that will assist in the maintenance of Council’s roads and infrastructure assets, and ensuring these assets are maintained to meet the expectations of the community.
The successful applicant will require:
- Demonstrated ability to deal in a positive and courteous manner with the public and other workers.
- Good verbal and written communication skills – ability to write clearly and neatly when completing necessary paperwork
- Ability to work as part of a team with good interpersonal skills
- Sound knowledge and practical application of WHS principles and the Work Health and Safety legislation
- Basic computer skills
- Demonstrated basic level of understanding of civil construction
- General Induction Construction Card (White Card) (or willing to obtain).

About this role:
- 1 x term contract, full-time position for a period of up to 3 years
- 35 hour week, working from 5:00am to 2:30pm
- Access to Council's 9 day fortnight Rostered Day Off (RDO) arrangement
- Located at Council's Auburn and Guildford Depots, with occasional travel required across Council worksites, and may be required to work across any of Council’s work locations
Salary information: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.
- This position is placed in Cumberland's Trainee Salary Structure with a salary range of $639.97 to $882.66 per week, dependent upon schooling completed, plus 11.5% superannuation
