Engineer Cadet (Entry Level)

About the cadetship:

Tweed Shire Council is proud to offer a Cadetship with our Infrastructure Delivery team. As a cadet, you’ll gain hands-on experience while completing your Bachelor of Engineering degree. This is a 4-year degree which will be completed part-time whiles you also participate in a work-based training program. Depending on your specific training plan and commitment, the cadetship will provide supported learning and accelerated career development over an extended period of between 6 and 10 years. 

Engineer Cadets generally follow a standard rotation program during the cadetship, with the opportunity to become more focused towards the end of the cadetship depending on organisational needs and the incumbent’s experience and preferences. 

The aim of the program is to produce cadets with strong technical and employment skills who are well-rounded, are capable, and whose contextual awareness is beginning to develop to the point they can be given greater independence - ultimately enhancing the incumbent's ongoing professional development and future career progression. 

In order to meet the requirements of the Cadetship, successful completion of training and tertiary studies is required.

What you'll do:

• Work alongside experienced engineers on a range of projects from road, bridge and footpath construction; to water, wastewater and waste management; to buildings, sports fields and marine infrastructure.
• Learn about the planning, design, construction, maintenance and operation of essential infrastructure and services.
• Gain a comprehensive understanding of engineering principles and practices through rotations across multiple teams.
• Develop strong technical skills and gain valuable hands-on experience.
• Receive mentorship from the Manager Infrastructure Delivery and Senior Engineers to help you succeed.

What's on offer:

• A full-time position for a maximum period of up to 6 to 10 years (subject to approved training plan), commencing February 2025.
• A starting base salary ranging from $45,682 to $62,358 per annum +11.5% super with potential to reach up to $109,716 upon completion. Salary progression is based on satisfactory completion of study plus work performance.
• Council will cover the associated course costs of your degree.

We are seeking:

• Applicants must have completed their HSC or tertiary studies or have commenced tertiary studies.
• Applicants must be eligible for acceptance in a recognised university for a Bachelor of Engineering degree.
• Strong academic record – particularly where relevant to the position and engineering.
• Demonstrated ability to work affectively in teams and individually.
• Demonstrated sound written and oral communication skills.
• Aptitude to manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines. 
• A positive attitude and self-motivated.
• Current drivers licence.

Where it's located:

This position is based in Murwillumbah and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
