Are you mechanically minded and passionate to kick start your career in the automotive/ heavy vehicle industry? Do you have the drive to improve yourself and skills as you learn off some of skilled and highly experienced motor mechanics in the industry? Council is planning to participate in the Government’s A fresh Start for Local Government Apprentices, Trainees and Cadets program. We are seeking those who have an interest in completing an apprentice to obtain a Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology whilst gaining on the job experience.

The apprenticeship includes:

  • Assist with servicing, maintaining and repairing Council and RFS vehicles, plant and equipment including inspections, testing, diagnosis and fault finding.
  • Participate in following Council and RFS mechanical works schedules with respect to maintenance and safety inspections.
  • Assist with keeping accurate servicing records of time, parts and other vehicle information.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of systems including collection of data. 
  • Assist with ensuring that servicing and repairs are undertaken efficiently and effectively to minimise downtime.
  • Assist with ensuring that all work is consistent with manufacturer’s specifications and statutory regulations.
  • Participate in ensuring compliance with National Heavy Vehicle Law and Chain of Responsibility legislation.

What we are seeking in applicants:

  1. Must have full Australian working rights to be considered for this position
  2. Committed to complete a full time 4 year apprenticeship, including practical studies
  3. Completed Year 10, 11 or 12 and a strong interest in mechanics (Desirable)
  4. Good attention to detail with the ability to follow instruction
  5. Committed, reliable, punctual with a positive attitude and willingness to learn
  6. Love working hands-on and comfortable to undertake manual labour
