Council is seeking applications from individuals with an interest in working to protect health and the environment to take on the role of Aboriginal Environmental Health Trainee. 

The OPPORTUNITY:

  • Full time temporary employment with Narrabri Shire Council as an Environmental Health Trainee.
  • In this 12 month traineeship you will study a Certificate II or III, pending candidates experience and preference. 
  • You will have paid study leave.
  • You will have structured on-the-job training.
  • Remuneration commencing from $803.30 to $1092.10 per week plus superannuation.

You will work in the office and out in the community:

  • Inspecting swimming pools, food, skin penetration and other businesses
  • Responding to enquiries and investigating complaints
  • Sampling water and soil to protect the environment
  • Educating to protect health and the environment

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person by descent and identity who is recognised as such by the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community.
  • Is able to meet the admission requirements for a Certificate II or III Level Qualification.  
  • Is committed to completing the study requirements part-time while working full time. 
  • Has interest and awareness of environmental health issues. 
  • Has well-developed communication and writing skills.
  • Is enthusiastic and able to take direction.
  • Is able to work independently and within a team.
