About Us
At Sutherland Shire Council, we pride ourselves on being a community-focused organisation that champions the well-being of all animals. Our Animal Shelter Operations team is dedicated to providing care, rehabilitation, and rehoming for companion animals while promoting responsible pet ownership in our community.
We are currently seeking enthusiastic individuals who share our passion for animal welfare to join our team as Animal Shelter Trainees. This is an exciting temporary full-time opportunity, allowing you to make a real difference in the lives of animals and their owners.
Your Role
As an Animal Shelter Trainee, you will have the unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the daily operations of our shelter. You will assist in the care of animals, support community education initiatives, and help maintain a clean and welcoming environment for both animals and visitors.
This role is perfect for someone eager to learn and grow within the field of animal care while working alongside experienced professionals in a supportive environment.
Who We’re Looking For
We are looking for individuals who are not only passionate about animals but also eager to contribute to the community and enhance their skills through hands-on experience.
- Commitment to completing the Certificate III in Animal Studies.
- Experience in handling companion animals.
- Strong desire to work with animals and promote responsible pet ownership.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team.
- Experience in customer service is a plus.

- Interview date: Interviews will be facilitated within 2 weeks of the closing date
- Package: $41,771 gross p.a. plus 11.5% superannuation.
- Hours of work: Temporary full time position working 35 hours per week, with an option of 19 day month for maximum period of 18 months whilst completing a Cert III in Library and Information Services (Study to be completed at Ultimo TAFE).
