How you’ll make a difference

Victoria Daly Regional Council is looking for a full-time Community Safety Coordinator based in Katherine, NT. 

This position is responsible for supporting the Regional Community Safety and Wellbeing Manager to coordinate the Community Night Patrol program efficiently across Council.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide support to the Regional Community Safety and Wellbeing Manager ensuring programs administration are undertaken and completed effectively and within the required time frames.
  • Provide support and work with Community Patrol teams to build capacity regarding reporting and ensuring consistent and effective delivery of services.
  • Supervise the administration and reporting responsibilities of team leaders in each community.
  • Provide support to staff in incident reporting and ensure reports are consolidated and submitted to the Community Safety and Wellbeing Manager.
  • Manage in conjunction with the Community Safety and Wellbeing Manger the maintenance and repairs of the Community Patrol facilities and vehicles to ensure compliance and safety.
  • Work with the Recreation Coordinators and Night Patrol Teams to provide positive community engagement.
  • Coordinate and manage recruitment related paperwork including community advertising, interviewing, submitting request to fill vacancies for approval to the Council’s Human Resource department.

As the Victoria Daly region has a large Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population, you will need to ensure cultural sensitivity and awareness across all activities.

TRAVEL REQUIRMENTS

This position is based in Katherine, and you will be required to undertake extensive travel, overnight stays in remote communities within the Victoria Daly Regional Council area. 

Additionally, you will join with the following skills and background:

  • Ability to work with limited supervision and direction. 
  • Personal integrity.
  • A good understanding of the barriers faced by people in remote indigenous communities and the ability to work collaboratively with others to address these barriers.
  • Well-developed oral skills including the ability to consult and negotiate sensitively and effectively with Indigenous people.
  • Experience working in remote indigenous communities.
  • Ability to priorities a workload effectively
