Purpose of the Role

Bayside Council is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Trainee Arborist. This is a fantastic opportunity to kick-start your career in arboriculture, working with a team of experienced professionals while gaining valuable hands-on experience and qualifications in the field. As a Trainee Arborist, you will be trained to care for and maintain trees in public spaces, including parks, streetscapes, and other green areas within the community. This is a full-time, max term position that combines practical, on-the-job learning with formal training, leading to a qualification in Arboriculture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with tree planting, pruning, and maintenance activities.
  • Learn how to perform tree inspections and identify health issues, pests, and diseases.
  • Support the Arborist team with tree removals, storm damage response, and emergency tasks.
  • Learn how to maintain tools and use equipment and machinery in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions, contributing to the upkeep of local green spaces.
  • Follow safety protocols and contribute to a safe working environment.

What We're Looking For

  • General schooling to Year 10 or 12, or equivalent.
  • No prior experience necessary; training will be provided.
  • A genuine interest in Arboriculture
  • Strong work ethic, commitment, and reliability.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, and the ability to perform manual labour tasks.
  • Good communication skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude.
