About the role

Are you passionate about animals and committed to making a difference in their lives? Our Animal Care & Compliance team is looking for compassionate, hardworking and responsible Animal Shelter Attendants.

These essential roles are responsible for assisting in the provision of daily care, sustenance and enrichment to the companion animals and livestock that are impounded through Council's Animal Care & Impounding Services. Your primary focus will be the transportation of animals between Council's contracted veterinary clinic and animal holding facilities. You will ensure that the animal's welfare is maintained during transportation and that the appropriate information is shared between the Animal Care & Impounding Services team and the contracted service providers. You will also be required to provide sustenance (food and water) to animal's temporarily held in Council's care and regularly clean the animal enclosures and transportation vehicles.

The salary for these positions from $38.83/hr up to $42.86/hr, (noting a 25% loading applies to casual positions), plus superannuation. (Salary package will be assessed based on skills, experience and qualifications)

We are currently hiring the following positions:

  • 2 part time (25 hours/week) 2-year term contracts until July 2026 with possibility of extension - Part-time hours: 5 hours per day. 8am-2pm or 12pm-6pm
  • 1 Casual Attendant

These roles require the successful applicants to work flexible hours including being on-call. This may include some weekend and over-time work. Applicants should be suitably fit to undertake the duties as outlined in the job description.

What you will be doing:

Health Monitoring: Observe and report any health or behavioural changes in animals to the veterinary staff

Customer Service: Assist visitors, help with meet and greets, and answer questions about animal care

Record Keeping/Administration: Maintain accurate records on animal's care and status

Transportation: Transporting of animals between the shelter and contractor facilities

About you

You bring a genuine love and passion for animals and a desire to improve their lives. You are suitably fit to undertake the duties as outlined and bring previous experience with handling companion animals and livestock. You are also comfortable transporting animals and have experience driving a trailer.

You enjoy working with others as a team, working collaboratively with staff, volunteers and the community. Your friendly, compassionate and positive making you comfortable interacting with the public and animals.
