Gilgandra Shire Council is seeking a Apprentice Chef to join Cooee Lodge Aged Care Facility.

Are you passionate about cooking and looking to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others? An apprentice chef position in our aged care facility offers a unique opportunity to develop your culinary skills while providing nutritious and delicious meals that enhance the well-being of our residents. 

Throughout the apprenticeship, you will be required to complete a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery whilst gaining practical experience.

Council will fund all related training expenses as approved by Council and the successful applicant will be employed for up to three (3) years.

Council will offer wages in accordance with the salary structure depending on age, acquired skills and experience.  

About the position

This position will assist in the delivery of food services within Council's aged care facility - Cooee Lodge, including ordering, preparation, cleaning, staff supervision and regulatory compliance.

  • Permanent full time fixed term 3 years
  • 38 hours week
  • Rostered Monday - Sunday
  • weekly pay cycle 
  • Salary range - Depending on age and experience

About you: 

Council is looking for someone who has the following qualities, experience and or qualifications 

  • A genuine interest in cooking and working in a large commercial kitchen or similar 
  • Willingness to develop knowledge and skills in preparation of special dietary needs in accordance with care plans 
  • Willingness to obtain a good understanding of the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) to ensure a high standard of food safety, preparation and storage.
  • Sound knowledge of Work Health and Safety
  • Ability to work with and empathy towards the elderly
  • Sound communication skills both written and verbal
  • Punctual and a good attendance record
  • Possess a genuine commitment to complete apprenticeship within required timeframes
  • Positive attitude to work and the ability to work as part of a team, to help others and to learn 
  • Current First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain
