About the role2x permanent, full time Building Surveyor positions are available working 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm) located at the Nowra Administration Building. As part of our Certification Team, this role involves evaluating and managing development assessments, as well as offering professional advice and guidance to the public on development-related issues.
The advertised salary is based on the grade of the position, comprising of 4 steps within the range shown. The starting salary is at Step 1 within the grade. Progression through the salary steps shall be based upon the achievement of performance objectives relating to the position.
Duties
Reporting directly to the Team Supervisor - Certification, the focus of this position is to:

- Assist in the administration of applicable Acts so as to achieve the best built environment, health, welfare and well-being of the whole community and to ensure achievement of the objectives of Council’s Management Plan and Council’s levels of customer service
- Undertake assessment of Construction Certificates, Complying Development Certificates, Building Information Certificates, Bushfire Attack Level Certificates, and Development Assessment as required and prepare detailed compliance reports.
- Undertake critical stage inspections in accordance with the level of accreditation.
- Provide for the protection, promotion, and improvement of the natural and built environment, and public amenity and safety in order to achieve the objectives of Council’s Community Strategic Plan.
- Provide professional advice and guidance to the public on development related matters.
- To manage, assess and process development assessments which range in complexity and value.
Skills & Experience

Grade 9
- Tertiary qualification in Building Surveying or equivalent to attain a registered Class of building surveyor – Building Inspector.
- Undertaking or completed training to achieve a registered Class of building surveyor – Building Inspector with NSW Fair Trading
Grade 10
- Tertiary qualifications in Building Surveying or equivalent to attain a registered Class of building surveyor – restricted (class 1 and 10 buildings).
- Registered as a certifier to attain a registered Class of building surveyor – restricted (class 1 and 10 buildings) with NSW Fair Trading.
Grade 11
- Tertiary qualifications in Building Surveying or equivalent to attain a registered Class of building surveyor – restricted (all classes of buildings) or Class of building surveyor – unrestricted.
- Registered as a certifier at Class of building surveyor – restricted (all classes of buildings) or Class of building surveyor – unrestricted with NSW Fair Trading.

This position requires:
- Hold or be eligible to acquire a NSW WorkCover Construction Induction card.
- Class C Driver’s Licence.
This is a grade range position, therefore in accordance with qualifications, accreditation, experience and demonstrated skills, the prospective employee will be assessed as either Grade 9, 10,11.
