Bushland Field Officer – Fire Management
- Salary $58,733.48 to $68,112.72 p/a + super
- 38 hours per week/9 day fortnight
- Undertake work associated with the delivery of Council bushfire management program and the maintenance of the fire trail and walking track network

About the role
Ku-ring-gai Council is seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team as a Bushland Field Officer specialising in Fire Management.
This role involves working on the conservation and maintenance of the Council's natural environment and bushland areas, with a focus on fire management practices.
Reporting to the Team Leader, your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Undertaking bushfire management tasks including hazard reduction burning, asset protection zone (fire break), fire trail and walking track construction and maintenance
- Chainsaw operations and tree removal
- Operation and maintenance of heavy and small plant such as 4WD’s, ride on mowers, compaction rollers, chainsaws, brush cutters, self-propelled mowers and pole saw
- Collaborating with other team members and stakeholders to ensure effective fire management
- Participating in community education and engagement activities related to fire management
- Where required undertake other bushland operational works including, but not limited to weed and vertebrate pest control, bushland education activities and emergency response to severe storm/weather events
Required experience & skills:
- Appropriate qualification relevant to Public Safety (Firefighting Operations), Crew member equivalent (For example, NSW Rural Fire Service or NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service Crew Member qualification) or willingness to undertake training to obtain certificate
- Current First Aid Certificate
- Current Manual C class Driver’s licence and willingness to undertake training to obtain MR Driver’s licence
- Current White Card Certificate or willingness to undertake training to obtain certificate
- AQF3 Chemical Handling certificate or willingness to undertake training to obtain certificate
- Chainsaw operator’s certificate or willingness to undertake training to obtain certificate
- Demonstrated experience in bushland management and fire management practices
- Demonstrated experience in the operation and maintenance of small and heavy plant & equipment
- Ability to work effectively in a team and independently
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
