Your Position:

Burwood Council is proud to offer a Cadetship within our Community Safety Team as we look to the future ensuring our staff have fulfilling careers and are skilled and experienced to deliver high quality services to our community.  You will develop key skills and knowledge, and gain hands-on experience in environmental health and public health inspections, working under the guidance of our Senior Environmental Health Officer, while completing your degree.

As a Cadet Environmental Health Officer, you will:

  • Assist in health inspections and education programs
  • Assist in the monitoring of food premises, cooling towers, hair and beauty salons, skin penetration premises, boarding houses, restricted premises and underground petroleum storage systems
  • Support investigations into public health and environmental issues
  • Help to prepare reports, legal documents and recommendations under supervision
  • Assist in the assessment of development applications in relation to health and environmental compliance requirements

Key Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Be currently enrolled and studying a Bachelor of Science (Environmental Health) degree, and in your final or second-last year of your degree
  • Have an interest and knowledge of environmental and public health legislation, codes and guidelines
  • Show a willingness to learn and contribute positively to a team environment
  • Hold a current Class C NSW Drivers Licence
  • Be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (minimum two doses)
  • Be willing to undertake pre-employment screening, which may include a medical exam and/or National Criminal History Check
