Georges River Council have an amazing opportunity for a Paralegal/Graduate Lawyer to join their Governance and Risk team.

 

The Team

The Corporate Governance and Risk team oversees Council’s Corporate Governance, Compliance, and Risk functions including all frameworks to ensure organisational transparency, accountability and compliance with statutory obligations. The team is responsible in ensuring Council is compliant with the Code of Conduct, Enterprise Risk Management Policy, Public Interest Disclosure Reporting Policy, Fraud and Corruption Control Policy, and Statement of Business Ethics including information and privacy legislation.

The Role 

Working as part of the Corporate Governance and Risk team, the incumbent will provide high quality research and administration services to support the activities associated with access to information applications, internal privacy reviews, insurance claims, policy development and maintenance of public disclosure registers.

  • Casual opportunity, immediate start - up to 5 days per week (35 hours per week) 
  • Hourly rate from $50.36 - $58.35 inclusive of casual loading plus 11.5% superannuation (dependent on the skills, qualifications and relevant experience of the suitable candidate)

Who You Are

We’re looking for someone with relevant qualifications and/or demonstrated understanding in governance, policy or public administration functions. You are someone who has demonstrated the ability to think strategically, solve problems and apply sound judgement. You also have experience in conducting thorough research and have excellent time management skills.  

 

Essential

  • Qualifications in the legal field (penultimate year of study applicants will be considered) or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability in interpreting and applying relevant legislation, such as the Local Government Act 1993 and the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 to the development of policies and other governance related tasks or enquires.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, solve problems and apply sound judgement.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills coupled with the ability to work well under pressure with multiple issues and competing deadlines.
  • Ability to undertake research and prepare correspondence, reports and other written documentation
  • Demonstrated experience in written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
