About the opportunity

We have an exciting new opportunity for an experienced, resilient and innovative leader to join us as the Chief Safety Officer.

You will play a large role in delivering our vision to be the best Council in Australia. This is a brilliant opportunity to deliver high-quality services to our community, and to be the key lead of service delivery/functions of our Safety section.

You will be responsible for:

  • The supervision and general control of the function of the Safety section
  • The development, implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement of Council’s Work Health and Safety (WHS) System
  • Liaising with SafeWork NSW on inspections, licensing, serious injuries, and dangerous occurrences, and follow up investigations. 

We are looking for someone who is passionate about improving workplace safety, and who is committed to a safety-focused culture. 

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications with extensive relevant experience
  • The ability to develop and implement a vision for the pro-active and positive development of Council’s Safety section
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations
  • Demonstrated commitment to stakeholder and customer service
  • Exceptional negotiation and communication skills
  • Exceptional inter-personal, leadership and management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve successful outcomes within agreed timelines, while balancing competing priorities and stakeholder needs
  • Ability to work within a team environment
  • Sound business acumen
  • Current driver's licence
  • Clearance of National Police Check. 

Desirable:

  • An in depth understanding of local government accountability and legislation
  • Availability to work flexible working hours.

Remuneration and benefits

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.
