The City of Canterbury Bankstown is one of the largest Council’s in NSW with the most culturally, socially and economically diverse communities in Sydney. We deliver 28 key services such as childcare, waste collection, parks maintenance, libraries, community facilities and aquatic centres to over 380,000 residents.
The role
Join us in supporting the Mayor and Councillors to promote Council activities and engage the community. Help bring compelling stories to life, elevate the Council's profile through strategic media campaigns, and foster connections with the public. With expert advice, innovative ideas, and timely responses, you'll play a key role in showcasing the Council's positive impact and building strong, supportive relationships with both media and community stakeholders.
As an integral member of the team, you will be required to work from the Councils Executive Office in the Bankstown City Centre five days a week.
Duties will include but not be limited to:
- Positively promote Council and the City.
- Create opportunities to promote the Council's activities and value across various audiences and channels, highlighting the Mayor as the key spokesperson.
- Work collaboratively to develop tactical plans to execute campaigns, and engagement and communications activities.
- Coordinate Mayoral engagement, outreach activities and other civic activities as required.
- Keep abreast of media issues relevant to the City of Canterbury Bankstown.
- Leverage Civic, Council and community events to promote the activities and value of Council.

You will have
- Tertiary qualification in media, journalism, communications, public relations, or similar relevant industry qualification/experience.
- C Class Drivers Licence
- At least three years’ experience in media, communications, or public relations.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the use of multi-channel media, networks, and other communication/engagement mediums.
- High proficient in a range of writing styles that meet the needs of different audiences, including media releases and responses, interview briefs and talking points for a range of media platforms.
- Proven skill in simplifying complex issues into clear, relatable language that resonates with the target audience.
- Demonstrated experience in developing inspiring and engaging content.
- Ability to form and maintain strong relationships, trust and rapport across the organisation and the media.
The salary range for this opportunity starts at $101,423 (Grade H, Step1) + 11.5% super. Salary may be negotiable dependent on skills and experience.
