The City of Canterbury Bankstown is one of the largest Council’s in NSW with the most culturally, socially and economically diverse communities in Sydney. We deliver 28 key services such as childcare, waste collection, parks maintenance, libraries, community facilities and aquatic centres to over 380,000 residents. 

The role

 

As the Civic Liaison Officer, you will be the first point of contact for the Civic and Executive Office at Canterbury Bankstown Council, ensuring a seamless and professional experience for all stakeholders. This role is at the heart of civic engagement - balancing diplomacy, efficiency, and exceptional customer service in a fast-paced environment.

You will handle inquiries via phone and email, ensuring timely resolution of issues while keeping key stakeholders informed every step of the way. Whether addressing community concerns, supporting the Mayor’s Office, or liaising with internal teams, your role will be pivotal in maintaining a high level of public trust and satisfaction.

Your ability to navigate sensitive political environments with discretion, escalate concerns appropriately, and foster positive relationships across Council departments will be key to success. Additionally, you will play a crucial role in streamlining processes, assisting with Mayoral events, and enhancing overall service delivery within the Office of the CEO.

As an integral member of the team, you will be required to work from the Councils Executive Office in the Bankstown City Centre five days a week.

Duties will include but not be limited to:

 

  • Interacting professionally and tactfully with individuals at all levels, both internally and externally by providing a high level of customer service, with a particular focus on continuous improvement and enhancing the customer experience.
  • Undertaking administrative activities associated with the civic and executive offices.
  • Handling a wide range of inquiries in a fast-paced, challenging environment, including managing difficult customers and addressing excessive demands with professionalism and efficiency.
  • Demonstrating an awareness of political sensitivity and the handling of confidential information with discretion.
  • Escalating customer requests and inquiries to relevant corporate or operational areas for response.
  • Assist with Mayoral and Civic events and functions, collaborating with the Office of the CEO and other key stakeholders.

You will have

 

  • Experience in a customer service role in face to face and/or call centre environments.
  • Experience in managing customer relationships.
  • Computer literacy skills.
  • Knowledge of Local Government functions and responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of Canterbury-Bankstown LGA, including geography, activities and services
  • Skills in a language other than English are desirable.

The salary range for this opportunity starts at $75,011 (Grade E, Step1) + 11.5% super. Salary may be negotiable dependent on skills and experience.
