The Opportunity

As a Community Health Officer at the City of Perth, you will be responsible for the administration of essential legislation, empowering the City to fulfill its duty of care and enhance community health standards. By driving impactful initiatives, you will help create a safer, healthier environment that positively shapes the well-being of our community.

Reporting to the Coordinator Community Health within our Community Safety and Amenity team, your responsibilities would primarily include:

  • Provide professional and technical advice to members of the public and other stakeholders on various community health issues;
  • Educate, implement, monitor and enforce requirements of the Public Health Act, Food Act, Environment Protection Act and other relevant legislation;
  • Assess technical reports, development applications, building applications for food premises, dwellings and other buildings to ensure compliance; and
  • Undertake inspections public events and gatherings and carry out food, water, pest, noise and environmental monitoring as required.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will possess:

  • Experience working as Environmental Health Officer within local government;
  • Strong knowledge of related legislation including Local Government Act, Food Act, Environmental Protection Act, Public Health Act and local laws;
  • Excellent customer service with strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication including negotiation and conflict management skills; and
  • Experience in preparing detailed reports and correspondence.

Eligibility

To be eligible to work for us, you will need to demonstrate:

  • A right to work in Australia (e.g. a birth certificate, current passport or current visa);
  • Fitness for work via a pre-employment medical;
  • A current ‘C’ class Australian drivers licence; and
  • A satisfactory National Police Clearance (dated within 3 months).
