These roles involve proactive and reactive Compliance services, including responsible pet ownership, overgrown properties, abandoned vehicles, noise complaints, and footpath or roadside permits.

As a Compliance Officer, you will conduct monitoring activities, investigate breaches, issue compliance notices, and engage with the community to promote awareness of regulations. You will also be responsible for preparing evidence, reports, and documentation to support enforcement actions, including representing Council in legal proceedings when required.

These positions require strong communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills, as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. If you are detail-oriented, community-focused, and passionate about upholding local laws, we encourage you to apply.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will be a detail-oriented and community-focused professional with strong investigative and compliance skills. You will have experience in enforcing local laws and state legislation, with the ability to engage effectively with the community and handle compliance matters with professionalism and integrity.

You will have well-developed communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills – allowing you to educate the community, manage difficult situations, and ensure fair and consistent enforcement of regulations. Your ability to investigate breaches, collect evidence, and prepare clear and accurate reports will be essential to this role. Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the capacity to work both independently and within a team will be highly valued.

A tertiary qualification relevant to Compliance, Local Government, or a related discipline is required, along with a current ‘C’ class driver’s licence. Experience in project or program management and a general understanding of local government operations will be highly regarded. Participation in an on-call roster may be required.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide community education and awareness of Council’s Local Laws and relevant State Legislation.
  • Undertake monitoring activities across the region to meet service delivery obligations and ensure customer service expectations are achieved.
  • Collect evidence, take photographs, prepare statements, compliance notices, letters, assessment check lists, briefing notes and other written communication to substantiate decisions, consistent outcomes and enforcement action.

  • Prepare impartial, accurate and concise evidentiary reports and briefs of evidence for escalated compliance issues and serious incidents.
  • Conduct high level investigations into alleged breaches of relevant Council Local Laws and State Legislation and provide evidence in a court of law or QCAT when required.
  • Undertake general maintenance activities for animal impoundment facilities and provide care for impounded animals in compliance with relevant standards.
