Inner West Council is a dynamic and vibrant local government area in Sydney, home to a population of around 188,000 people. With an operational budget of around $300 million and a dedicated team of approximately 1,800 employees, Inner West Council delivers 39 essential services to its residents, ensuring the area remains one of the most liveable and exciting parts of the city.

The role of Director Corporate is a member of the Executive and reports to the General Manager. Its main purpose is to deliver on Council’s vision, values and corporate goals, consistent with the Community Strategic Plan, Delivery Program and Long-Term Financial Plan. The role is also critical in maintaining and developing collaborative and productive partnerships with other members of the Executive, managers, and the elected Council. The role also provides advice to the Executive, Mayor, Councillors and implements Council Resolutions. The role provides strong and visible leadership to the Corporate Directorate. The Corporate Directorate is responsible for a range of high-quality services to the community including Finance, Information & Communication Technology, Governance & Risk, People & Culture, Procurement, Customer Experience & Service Transformation. 

Key accountabilities of the role include: advising the Executive and Council on legislative requirements, trends and developments; developing budget, operations, policies and procedures; ensuring all Integrated Planning and Reporting requirements, Long Term Financial Plan, Delivery Program and Operational Plan actions are completed on time; leading and managing the Directorate’s financial, performance and resource functions; leading and developing a culture of diversity, equity and high performance through the Directorate; and enhancing the customer experience across the Directorate.

High calibre candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and will be able to demonstrate their significant contribution to the management of the strategic direction of an organisation featuring political, community, customer-focused and workforce interactions. They will demonstrate high level experience in business planning, budgeting, cost control and performance management systems and principles and the implementation of continuous improvement and quality management systems. The key capabilities identified for this position in the Local Government Capability Framework are: Manage Self; Demonstrate Accountability; Community and Customer Focus; Think and Solve Problems; Finance; Technology and Information; and Manage and Develop People.
