About the role
This is a permanent, full time position working 35 hours per week located at the Council's Bomaderry Works Depot. Working as part of the Works & Service s Department of Council, the District Engineer is responsible for leading day to day operations of the unit staff, finances and provide civil infrastructure advice on construction and maintenance of Council assets.

The advertised salary includes up to $225 per week above the base salary for an outstanding candidate.
The advertised salary is based on the grade of the position, comprising of 4 steps within the range shown. The starting salary is at Step 1 within the grade. Progression through the salary steps shall be based upon the achievement of performance objectives relating to the position.
Duties
Reporting directly to the Manager - Works & Services, the focus of this position is to:

- To provide progressive leadership to a multi-disciplinary team to ensure the on-time, within budget, delivery of asset construction and maintenance programs. Key assets include, but not limited to, roads, bridges, carparks, jetties, parks, drainage, pathways and related infrastructure.
- Contribute to Shoalhaven City Council’s management of change program and build the Council’s corporate capacity to take these initiatives forward so that the organization continues to improve and focus on its missions.
- Lead and manage the day to day operations of the Unit staff, finances and assets in accordance with the organisation’s objectives, unit’s functional responsibilities, accountabilities, structure and resources as approved by the Council and articulated in the Annual operational Plans, to ensure optimal triple bottom line returns to the Council and the community.
- Ensure processes and protocols are in place for the Unit’s compliance with all relevant legislation, technical specifications, Council policies and ensure that risks are managed.
- Support Council’s engineering operations in response to emergency events.
Skills & Experience
To be successful in the position, you will have:

- University Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
- Extensive experience in the delivery of a wide range of civil infrastructure projects and maintenance programs, including allocation and management of resources.
- Demonstrated experience in the interpretation and application of relevant legislation, standards and guidelines.
- Class C Driver’s License
- General Construction Induction Card (White Card)
- Demonstrated success in guiding and coaching others and promoting continuous learning and actively seeking solutions for workplace improvement.
We are looking for someone with high level negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders.
