About the Opportunity

We have an rare and exciting opportunity available for a highly motivated, self-driven leader who thrives on challenges and wants to make a real difference. As the Economic Development and Tourism Manager, you'll have the chance to step in, own the role, and drive the growth of the Cessnock LGA and Hunter Region. In this key position, you will play an instrumental role in shaping the future of our region, collaborating with key stakeholders and leading a dedicated team to advance economic development and tourism initiatives. 

Some of the key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing strategic plans for economic development and tourism, aligned with regional objectives.
  • Fostering community development and supporting local businesses in driving economic growth.
  • Closely collaborating with the General Manager, Mayor, and the Planning & Environment team to promote industry, business, and residential development.
  • Confidently lead the  Economic Development and Tourism unit, including goal-setting, performance management, and staff development.
  • Identify and pursue significant economic and tourism opportunities in line with Council’s strategic vision.

Remuneration

$137,397 - $158,006 per annum, plus superannuation and a leaseback vehicle

About You

We’re looking for a candidate with a degree in economics, tourism, business, or a related field, extensive experience in economic development and tourism with a strong understanding of local and regional contexts, proven leadership skills, experience in writing grant funding applications, and a passion for driving economic growth and making a positive impact.
