About the Opportunity

Parkes Shire Council is looking for a full-time Electrician to join our Infrastructure team

In this role you will role be responsible for providing continuous and ongoing planned electrical maintenance of Council's assets in accordance with relevant standards. 

You will have the autonomy to develop and maintain our maintenance program, and you will also have the opportunity to participate in key projects with our Water and Wastewater teams. 

Due to the nature of the role, you will be required to be available for on-call and after hours to assist as needed. An on-call allowance is available. 

Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure that all Council’s electrical equipment is maintained in an excellent working condition through an ongoing maintenance program including air conditioners, power tools, lighting, two-way radios, switchboards, PLCs, telemetry system, motors, and other essential services.
  • Maintain and develop methods to rectify or enhance system performance, reliability, and availability by removing restrictions, impediments, and deterioration.
  • Ensure the reliable operation of the Council's assets by completing electrical condition assessments.
  • Prepare and maintain records of electrical work completed.
  • Perform and provide support in the area of Telemetry, SCADA, instrumentation, and computers.
  • Carry out installation of electrical equipment.
  • Coordinate with other trades and Council staff to assist with their work as part of the whole Council's goals and objectives.
  • Training personnel in the operation and upkeep of installed electrical assets.
  • Additions, alterations, and renewals projects within held specialist skills.
  • Other duties as required by Parkes Shire Council

About You

The successful applicant requires strong communication and teamwork skills. The nature of this position may require you to start work early and/or finish work late as work activities may be undertaken at outlying locations within the Shire. 

To be successful in this position you will need:

  • Electrical Licence
  • Recent and relevant industry knowledge and experience
  • Understanding of electrical systems including but not limited to SCADA, PLC, instrumentation, process knowledge and telemetry. 
  • Current and maintained NSW Driver’s Licence
  • SafeWork NSW Construction induction (White Card)
  • National Police History Check

It will be highly favorable if you possess any of the following:

  • Knowledge of the role, functions and responsibilities of Local Government.

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Parkes Shire Council's policies and conditions of employment. 

The role has been evaluated as being Grade 12 of the Council's salary structure and offers a starting salary circa $83,000 - $95,000 per annum (includes relevant allowances) (starting salary depends on skills and experience) plus super and salary packaging options to increase your take-home pay.
