Purpose of the role
The City Life directorate delivers personalised and public services to enhance community life, including family, aged, leisure and cultural services.
The role sits within the Compliance and Community Safety unit, under the City Life directorate. The purpose of the Environmental Compliance Officer position is to investigate claims of unauthorised and/or unsafe development or use.
About the role
You will mainly be responsible for the delivery of construction compliance and protection activities, respond to related customer requests, and undertake reasonable follow up to achieve timely outcomes.
You will work autonomously to carry out scheduled inspections and, where necessary to achieve the required compliance outcome, issue penalty infringement notices, instigate legal proceedings and represent Council to provide evidence in court.
If you are a proactive, confident and resilient individual with excellent communication skills and have prior experience in environmental building compliance and with thorough knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, statutory authority guidelines and standards, we want to hear from you.
You can also expect to:
- Respond to customer requests regarding issues related to environmental compliance and protection and undertake required follow up to achieve timely and appropriate outcomes.
- Conduct timely inspections and investigations resulting from customer complaints and enquiries and other sources to comply with Council policy.
- Issue penalty infringement notices, instigate legal proceedings and represent Council to provide evidence in court when required to obtain the required compliance outcome.
- Maintain accurate and up to date records.
- Report regularly to the Coordinator Health and Environmental Compliance on results achieved against targets to meet Council reporting requirements.
- Promote the positive and collaborative culture and values of the organisation through open, fair and transparent decision making and ethical, professional behaviour.
- Work in collaboration with and assist the team, coordinator, manager and other key stakeholders to achieve business unit goals, work requests, demands and Council priorities.
About you
We are looking for someone who has:
- Relevant qualifications and/or equivalent experience.
- Working knowledge of relevant legislations, regulations, statutory authority guidelines.
- A SafeWork NSW white card (general construction induction card).
- Current Driver’s Licence Class C
