The Opportunity

Are you currently studying towards an Environmental Health qualification? Come and join supportive team that works with community stakeholders to provide services that assist in making the City a safe place. 

The Environmental Health Assistant will provide operational support and delivery of compliance related duties within the Community Health team to achieving strong environmental health regulatory outcomes and best practice. 

Reporting to the Health Operations Lead within our Community Safety and Amenity team, your responsibilities would primarily include:

  • Complete monthly water sampling of aquatic facilities and of the Swan River;
  • Complete inspection of aquatic facilities for compliance against the Aquatic Facility Code of Practice and follow up and close out of non-compliant results with aquatic facility operators;
  • Maintain and update information systems, databases, and documents to ensure critical reporting data and records are stored compliantly; and
  • A range of other environmental health duties under the guidance of a qualified Environmental Health Officer.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will possess:

  • Studying for Bachelor of Science (Environmental Health) or similar qualification. Undergraduates must have successfully completed their first year of studies.
  • Knowledge of related legislation including Local Government Act, Food Act, Environmental Protection Act, Public Health Act and local laws.
  • Sound written, verbal communication and negotiation skills, including strong customer service skills and effective stakeholder management skills.
  • Good analytical, problem solving and time management skills

To qualify for this position, applicants must be undertaking an approved university qualification to become an Environmental Health Officer. This position is not suitable for persons studying environmental management or environment science.

  • A current ‘C’ class Australian drivers licence; and
  • A satisfactory National Police Clearance (dated within 3 months).
