About the Role

The City of Ryde Council is seeking to appoint one independent chair member to its Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee. This process may be used to fill other positions on the Committee as they arise.

The Committee is established under the local government Act and Regulation to promote good corporate governance at Council. Acting as an independent advisory Committee, it provides assurance to Council to assist with its oversight responsibilities. Council practices EEO and WHS principles.

Council has implemented Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee Charter in line with the Office of Local Government's Guidelines for Risk Management and Internal Audit for Local Government in NSW (Guidelines), effective 1 July 2024.

All appointments are to be made based upon a demonstrated ability to meet the independence and eligibility criteria as well as ensuring the ARIC has a complementary mix of skills/experience.

Council’s ARIC is well established with members, and supported by Council staff experienced in the following areas:

  • Financial management
  • Legal/compliance
  • Business management
  • Risk management
  • Corporate governance.

The ARIC meets at least 4 times a year plus at least 1 financial oriented meeting. Council will pay a competitive remuneration rate for independent membership of the ARIC to be negotiated with the successful applicant. As a guide, the fees payable for the Chairperson position will be approximately $2,000 per meeting (excl. GST, inclusive of all travel, preparation and other costs).
