Become a capital city planner by joining the City of Perth. Our role is to look to the future of our city and help to define what we could be.  We turn vision into strategy and implementable planning mechanisms that will make a difference.  We are natural collaborators, so work across government, stakeholders and industry to find common ground and practical solutions.

The opportunities

With our new Local Planning Strategy endorsed in 2023, and a new draft Local Planning Scheme No. 3 currently with the State Government for approval to advertise, we are busy on a new suite of city-wide planning policies and design guidelines for our heritage and character areas.

From preparing Community Infrastructure Plans to support our ambitious target of 55,000 residents by 2036, to our collaboration with State Government on the vision and future directions for the UWA-QEII Specialised Activity Centre, there is important work underway.

This translates into working closely with the development industry shaping the buildings of tomorrow.  Buildings that contribute to the liveability of our city, that help to shape its character and support the economic activity of our city day, night and weekends.

About you

At the City we understand that planning is more than just a job; it is an opportunity to help shape the future of our capital city.  It is a place where you can be proud of your achievements, and a place where you will be positively challenged and supported to grow through training and mentoring.

So, if you are: starting out in your career; keen on pursuing statutory planning; pivoting into strategic planning; or growing your career at a senior level, then we’d like to hear from you.
