About the Role

Bayside Council is seeking a skilled and proactive Stormwater and Floodplain Engineer to provide technical expertise in floodplain management, drainage design, emergency management, and asset management. This role is critical in developing best-practice asset management and planning solutions for floodplains, catchments, and stormwater infrastructure. The successful candidate will ensure that Council's strategies align with environmental principles, NSW Flood Policy, and community needs.

Primary purpose of the role is to:

  • Provide expert technical advice on stormwater-related issues to internal and external stakeholders
  • Develop and implement policies for managing flood-prone land within Bayside LGA to mitigate risk
  • Plan and deliver sustainable stormwater capital works programs that meet service levels and community needs while minimising asset lifecycle costs
  • Coordinate contractors and consultants for planning, construction, and maintenance of drainage systems, stormwater treatment measures, and flood mitigation works
  • Prepare project briefs for capital works, flood studies, and risk management plans
  • Assess and review stormwater asset management plans, flood studies, and stormwater quality strategies

About you

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent qualification that meets the eligibility requirements for membership with Engineers Australia
  • Extensive experience in urban floodplain, catchment, and stormwater management, with a proven ability to implement best-practice solutions
  • Strong technical skills, including proficiency in hydrological and hydraulic modelling software, databases, and data analysis tools
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • A current Class C Driver’s Licence
